What makes First Colony so distinctive? The answer lies both in our history - we've been roasting coffee since the turn of the century - and in our single-minded dedication to providing our customers with the finest gourmet coffees and teas anywhere. This century of experience and resolve pours itself into every cup of First Colony coffee and tea.

We are proud to be the only grower-owned coffee company in the United States. Put simply, we are owned by coffee farmers from the Antioquia region of Colombia. The fruits of their labor combined with our passion for coffee produces the finest coffees available. We believe you will taste the difference.

About our coffee:
People have enjoyed the extraordinary flavor and character of our premium coffees since 1902. Today, 96,000 coffee growers from the Antioquia region of Colombia own First Colony. Our heritage, along with their passion, produces the finest coffees. We hope you enjoy every sip of First Colony coffee as much as we love hand-roasting it for you.

First Colony is proud to offer only shade-grown organic coffees. Shade-grown refers to the way coffee was traditionally farmed. For generations, coffee shrubs were planted in the shade of taller existing trees. This method provides excellent homes for birds and other forest dwelling wildlife. In recent decades, coffee farmers around the world have converted to "sun coffee" farms by clear-cutting trees to increase production. Unfortunately, this shift does more than increase yields; it also greatly disrupts migratory bird patterns. Shade-grown coffee growers are committed to maintaining the natural farming landscape and to preserving bird habitats while harvesting excellent coffees.
